About Us

We started this page last fall, 2013, in hopes of bringing awareness to Domestic Violence after our daughter/sister Shaniel's life was taken by an act of Domestic Violence. Shaniel's family, her mother and four sisters have become passionate and very involved in Domestic Violence Awareness.

We would like to tell you a little about ourselves, so you know who is telling Shaniel's story. All five of us are very involved in the page and in telling Shaniel's Story. Here are our bio's.

Carol - She is the creative writer of the group. She writes Shaniel's Stories.

Carol is Shaniel’s mother. She is married, has 8 children, and 21 grandchildren. Her family and faith most important in life. She finds great satisfaction in serving others. She enjoys traveling with her husband and adventuring with her children and grandchildren.

She earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Utah State University in Family and Consumer Science Education and Nutrition and Food Science. She has worked as an Extension Agent/Educator for USU, Cache Co. Director for Youth & Family with Promise, school teacher, family educator for DCFS and Parents as Teachers. She and her husband own and operate a fruit orchard in northern Utah.

She has a passion for writing, especially about her family. Writing Shaniel’s Story has helped in the healing process of losing her daughter to domestic violence. Writing helps her internalize thoughts and feelings, reflect, express her inner most thoughts, put into perspective, grieve, forgive, recognize blessings, increase faith, and press forward with hope. She writes lovingly about Shaniel from her own perspective and from her heart... a tender mother - daughter relationship.

Carol is especially proud of her daughters for the active roles they have taken in telling Shaniel’s Story… on the web, speaking engagements, and seizing opportunities to make a difference in someone’s life… whether it is raising money for a Women’s Shelter or advocating against domestic violence. She loves to support them wherever they go, whatever they do. She is their biggest cheerleader!

Kelsey, is the creator/manager of the page. She also does the My Story portion of the page.

Kelsey is Shaniel’s oldest sister. She is married and has two children. Her and her family live on a small farm and have many animals. Her family and faith are most important to her. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, gardening and sewing.

Kelsey graduated with a bachelor’s in Nursing form Weber State University. She has been a nurse for 15 years and has worked in pediatrics, med/surg, Emergency Department and currently works in Home Care.

Kelsey and Shaniel shared their love for nursing together. Kelsey has become involved in Domestic Violence Awareness since Shaniel’s passing last year to help others in similar situations and to educate people on its harmful effects. Her hope is to further educate people on this vast problem and to be able to make a difference in people’s lives that are affected by Domestic Violence.

Since becoming involved in this issue, Kelsey has joined her local Domestic Violence Coalition. She is a member of a board on Elder Abuse in her community. She is also getting involved in her communities Sexual Assault Team, by becoming a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Domestic Violence Awareness has become a passion and crusade for Kelsey.

Amie is the public events person. She has given several public speeches. She was in charge of organizing A Walk for Shaniel. She is also a contributor to Shaniel's Story page.

Amie is Shaniel’s older sister. She and Shaniel were close in age and best friends. She is married and has four children. Amie loves to spend time with family. She loves to craft and garden, and takes pride in her yard. Amie’s favorite past time is helping others in any way possible.

Amie has served in various volunteer positions throughout her life and is actively involved in her community. Some of her volunteer services include working with the elderly, community council member, PTA President, and her county’s director for “No grave left unadorned.”

Since the passing of her sister, Shaniel, last February, she has been a dedicated advocate for Domestic Violence Awareness, and has been a guest speaker for Domestic Violence Awareness organizations.

Amie organized a "A Walk for Shaniel - Taking steps to end Domestic Violence"to celebrate her sister's life and to raise money for the local Women's shelter. It is her hope and desire to help educate victims of abuse and those who serve the community about the lasting and ill effects of Domestic Violence by sharing Shaniel's Story.

Audrey is a contributor to Shaniel's Story page.

Audrey is Shaniel’s younger sister. She is married and has 3 young children. Being a stay at home mom keeps her pretty busy. In her spare time (what’s that?) she likes to cook, can, and sew. Faith plays a major role in Audrey’s life.

Audrey also likes to camp, hike, or just spend time outdoors with her family. She has had a lifelong goal of participating in triathlons. Audrey competed in her first triathlon last year in honor of Shaniel.

Audrey is working toward a BS degree in accounting and loves anything to do with numbers and money. She enjoys the time that she gets to help others be more aware of domestic violence. Audrey hopes to be able to help others in similar situations.

Michelle is a contributor to Shaniel's Story page.

Michelle is Shaniel’s youngest sister. She is married and has one child. Michelle is very close with her family and extended family, she loves spending time with family. She enjoys the outdoors, camping and sports.

She currently works for the same Home Care company Shaniel did at her passing. Michelle had the opportunity to work there with Shaniel where Shaniel was able to share her love of caring for others with Michelle.

Michelle plans on pursuing a career in nursing, something that Shaniel has inspired her to do. Caring for people is something that Michelle has grown to love

.
Michelle has become involved in Domestic Violence Awareness to help to save at least one family from the heartache that her family has endured. Through her journey it has helped her realize how big a problem Domestic Violence has become all over the world. Hopefully by doing her part by Sharing Shaniel’s Story someone, somewhere out there will feel touched and feel a need to reach out for help.
